About
Illia Romanovich
Shopify and e-commerce engineer. Five years in e-commerce, the last three on Shopify only, for brands in the US, Canada and Europe.
I work for the storefront's result, not for closing tasks off a list. The best starting point for me is a clearly stated goal and a defined scope. With those I take the project whole, from the commercial logic (subscription models, offers, the funnel) to design and code, implement it precisely, and strengthen it wherever I see an effect on sales. If a finished design exists, I build it one to one. If not, design is part of the work. Once we start, the storefront passes through one pair of hands to a verified release, without a stream of questions back. When a project needs a team, I assemble and lead it. I work directly with US clients in English, without intermediaries.

What you can hand me
- A task with a clear goal and a defined scope: implemented precisely and strengthened where it improves the result
- A commercial task as a whole: the subscription model, the offer, the funnel, not only its markup
- A theme of any complexity: from scratch, a full redesign, or an extension of what exists
- Subscriptions, bundles, packs, quiz funnels and any custom buy box
- Funnel tracking through checkout, from GTM and GA4 to custom Web Pixels
- Speed on real users: Core Web Vitals measured in the field and fixed where they fail
- A live store with several developers and a content team, delivered without lost content or downtime
How I work
- Once the task is agreed, it is mine.
- I read the existing code, find the cause, take the work through release and verify it myself. Along the way you get results, not a stream of questions.
- I improve the brief, not only deliver it.
- Every project is a sales funnel to me. If there is a more effective way to move conversion than the one in the brief, I propose it before the work starts.
- New tools only after they prove themselves.
- I work with everything that genuinely speeds up delivery today, and keep only what survives a live project. The pipeline I built on Figma MCP and Claude Code eight months ago is one example.
- One person, or a team I lead.
- Design refinements, asset generation, code, QA and release are all mine. When the scope calls for more people, I hire and run the team. I have done that before.
- Estimates without padding.
- I never inflate a timeline. If I see a way to shorten the work, I say so before we start, not after.
- The result is mine until it is live.
- Root cause, fix, verification, deployment without disturbing the content team's work. The complexity stays on my side. What reaches you is a finished release and a short note on what changed.

Independent Shopify engineer working directly with brands in the US, Canada and Europe. Three recent production storefronts and one co-founded product, each with a different job to do:
A conversion-focused DTC storefront: the subscription offer designed and built on native Selling Plans, funnel tracking through the closed checkout with a custom Web Pixel, and real-user performance work that removed a layout shift PageSpeed never showed.
- OS 2.0
- Selling Plans
- Recharge
- RUM
Dawn extended for a medically complex compression catalog: a custom product-selection and education layer on top of native variant, cart and search behavior.
- Dawn
- Search & Discovery
- Metafields
A premium Prestige adaptation for a specialty roaster: retail, subscriptions, two cafes, catering and wholesale in one coherent storefront, with custom code reserved for the coffee data model and navigation.
- Prestige
- Metafields
- Recharge
Co-founded product
Co-founder, product and all development · Launched in 2024, running since
View caseA five-language quiz funnel for a consumer subscription product: the offer model, a nineteen-screen engine, server-side sessions, billing, report generation and three analytics layers with deduplication. Launched with partners; the brand and the revenue stay with them.
- Quiz funnel
- Subscription paywall
- Server-side events
- 5 languages
Absolute commercial figures from client work stay with the brands under NDA. Where the client allowed it, the case shows the relative result; the engineering is shown in full.
Hand over the storefront. Consider it handled.
Send the task and the goal. From there I read the code, take the work through release and verify it myself.
